Toby Benjamin is a writer, artist and lecturer based in Sussex UK. His non-fiction projects focus on his passions of ‘80s music, film and football. He can usually be found in his loft studio writing fiction, or painting, listening to New Wave, Post Rock and soundtracks. 

His latest book ‘The Withnail and I Book’ : From Cult to Classic’ comes out in September ’23 on Titan Books, with a foreword by Bruce Robinson who worked closely with Toby on the project. 

Toby conceived and co-authored the acclaimed Spirit of Talk Talk books, published by Rocket 88, which Talk Talk founding member Paul Webb called: ‘Very classy, and a fitting tribute to the band.’

He organised tribute nights for the Spirit of Talk Talk project, co-organised the 
Tribute to Mark Hollis and Talk Talk at the Southbank Centre, and co-produced the associated album with Alan Wilder on Fierce Panda records.

Toby conceived  and co-authored the book ‘My Eyes Have Seen the Glory’ interviewing 40 Spurs legends over 5 years.

He lectures MA design, marketing, and critical research at UCA and works as a mentor with disengaged kids. 

Toby has illustrated / designed for youth and teen markets for leading brands and retailers including Kate Moss at Topshop, Urban Outfitters and Selfridges. 

His career saw him forecasting in New York, featured in the Best of British Show NYC, nominated for an export award, and working with The Beatles, Blondie,  Pink Floyd as well as leading football clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool FC, Chelsea and Celtic. 

Toby loves the Sussex coast, painting landscape / seascapes in oils on canvas.

He lives in Sussex by the sea with his wife and two daughters, and a rather special Jack Russell doggo.
